How To Clean Out Your Candle Vessel

We take a lot of time to hand pick extra special vessels that look gorgeous in your home. Once you have burned through your candle, we know you don't want to just throw them away, so we've put together a few best practices you can use to clean out your candle vessel. Some people choose to repurpose them with a small plant or succulent for around the house or, if you would like, you can now bring them back in for a candle refill. Your candle refill is 15% off the price of the candle.

OPTION ONE

Using a little bit of dish soap, pour warm to hot water into your candle vessel. Clean out the jar with the warm soapy water. You might have to repeat this process a few times to make sure it is all clean. This should help to break away old wax and allow you to clean it out. We recommend pouring the leftover wax into the garbage or into an old can or container you plan on throwing away.

If you're having trouble removing the wick tabs. The tip of a butter knife or the back of a spoon works well to loosen them. Depending on the jar, some of the metal wick tabs might be pretty strongly bonded. If you can't get the metal wick tabs removed, and you plan to have the vessel refilled, we can put the new wicks in the open spots in the bottom of the jar. However, once no open spots remain on the bottom of the jar, we won't be able to refill the jar anymore.

OPTION TWO

Another effective way to clean out your candle vessel is to use a heat gun or some kind of tool that is similar. Slowly point the heat gun at the remaining wax in your jar until it starts to turn to liquid. Make sure to have something underneath your jar to catch the melted wax. It's best to work in waves and take breaks when needed to ensure you don't overheat your jar or burn your hands.

Once all the wax is melted, your metal wick tabs should start to slide around and loosen up. Grab a butter knife, spoon, or anything long enough to push those tabs out of your jar. Wipe your jar as clean as possible using a paper towel. If you want to make sure all extra residue is gone, add a little bit of dish soap and warm to hot water into your candle vessel. Let it sit for a minute or two and loosen up any remaining wax. Pour out the soapy water and wipe clean.

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

These jars are beautiful but they can be fragile. Try to limit the exposure to extreme temperatures (i.e the freezer/oven/extremely hot water) to avoid cracking or ruining the jar.

These two clean out methods are not the only way to clean out your jar, just some of the ways that have worked best for us.

If your candle jar is not fully cleaned out, we will not be able to refill it for you. All wax must be removed and it should be wiped clean.

We are not responsible for the condition of your jar once it is refilled/re-burned.
